I'm throwing down the gauntlet - or something
Written by Marc
Friday, 09 March 2007

Fraser. consider this a notification of something.  I'm not sure what.  But a gauntlet, or a glove, maybe a hat has been thrown down.  Or placed gently so as not to ruin the hardwood.

Either way, the challenge is laid my good chum.  You and I shall meet on the fields of battle.  The fields of battle which exist on the intertubes.  The files made of polygons, and which require us to take measured turns as we battle against each other.  This is no contest of reflex or dexterity but of cunning and wit!

Yes, I speak of Civilization IV.  Today, at around 4pm, or 4:30, whenever you're free.  I challenge you to a duel!  A duel which will most likely be drawn out for at least a week or more!

Pick your leader and meet me on the fields of battle!

We Have Chairs! Housewarming Party Soon
Written by Marc
Monday, 26 February 2007

After a trip to Leons (oh god!) and a store in our old 'hood Erin and I went to Ikea and bought a set of chairs and stools.  We had couches already but lacked any chairs for our kitchen table, and we needed two stools for our breakfast bar.

With that out of the way, we now have adequate seating for a party!  As I told people when I was moving, once we're all unpacked we'd have a party.  We'll we're down to about 6 boxes or so, which should be a good hour's worth of unpacking.  So I'll be sending out invitations for a housewarming party for the weekend (two weeks from now).  I'm thinking that Sat, March 10th would be a good day.

Marc & Erin Fed Directly to your Face!
Written by Marc
Tuesday, 20 February 2007

After months of people pestering me I finally joined Facebook.  Maybe I was just sick of people telling me too.  Is this what Web 2.0 is supposed to be?  A social network nearly devoid of any content at all?  I mean, surely there must be more.

I'll let you know if I ever find out.  One upside, I've found out that I can feed the RSS from my blog directly into my Facebook profile.  I suppose that's what this Web 2.0 shit is really about.  Content being separated from form or appearance.

Erin's joined Facebook too, and she sends me pokes nearly all the time.  If I were her though I'd be careful about those "pokes."  One never knows when one of them will turn into copulation of the most awkward, perfunctory variety

It is pretty cool to be able to see what my old high-school classmates are up to though.

While I'm on the topic of Web 2.0, check out the YouTube video when you click "Read More"

Almost Finished Unpacking
Written by Marc
Monday, 19 February 2007

Well it's been a week and Erin and I are almost finished setting things up and unpacking.  We have maybe 6 boxes left to unpack and I have a few more things I need to setup.

On the weekend I put up some blinds on the main floor, added another shelf in the Master Bedroom closet, assembled the kitchen table and the coffee table, changed the overhead light on the main floor for a fan assembly (my God that was frustrating) and changed our shower head to something better.

There's still a few things left for me to do.  I have to add some things to our bathroom, change the shower head again (Erin doesn't like it), add some shelves to the closets downstairs and in the second bedroom, clean up the second bedroom and assemble the "wall bridge" for our cabinet/entertainment unit spot.

So we're almost there.  Once everything is put together and unpacked I'll shoot another video of the place to add to this page.  There are some videos available now in the Movie Section (under Home Videos: Marc & Erin) but the quality of those is pretty poor and I need to re-encode them again.  I'll do all that once I've shot the last little movie.

Then it'll be house-warming party time!

Moved In - Lots to do
Written by Marc
Monday, 12 February 2007

Well we moved to our new home on Saturday and there is a ton to do.  I never realized just how overwhelming unpacking can be.  It's even worse than packing everything in the first place!

There were a few issues when we first moved in.  Our box-spring mattress wouldn't fit up the stairs to the second floors so the movers had to leave it in the living room.  However, when my dad came we just cut it so that we could bend it around the corner of the stairs and get it into the bedroom.

IM Client Roundup
Written by Marc
Wednesday, 07 February 2007

Yesterday I made the switch to using only one Instant Messaging client.  I haven't done this since earlier in the century when I switched from primarily using ICQ to MSN.  This time, I've gone from MSN to Google Talk.  No buyer's remorse here, everything is hunky dorey and I couldn't be happier with the switch.  Along with it, I thought I'd do a quick round-up of all the popular IM clients out there and explain why it is I'm sticking with Google.

Marc & Erin Movies!
Written by Marc
Thursday, 01 February 2007

Woohoo!  I always get excited when this website goes through a revision.  Today I made some changes to the site.  I doubt anyone would notice that the bar underneath the header picture is now gone and I wasn't sure anyone would notice the new link on the left hand side, snuggly under Pictures.  That's right, Marc & Erin now has a section for movies, videos what have you.

A few months ago I'd added a component that would let me embed videos into my posts.  I liked the way it worked and I'd personalized it, but as the number of videos I was hosting grew I realized I had no good way to accessing all of them later on.  The pictures section is great because people can go straight there without screwing around with content on the front page.  Want to find a picture?  Go to the Picture section.

Now I can do the same thing with videos!  So check it out, click that link and let me know what you think of my movie gallery.

My Favorite Games
Written by Marc
Thursday, 18 January 2007

A post on a forum asked what our favorite games have been over the years.  I started to make my list and it became quite long.  Most of these aren't favorites anymore, some of them I outright dislike now, however at the time I considered them favorites and I spent a lot of time with each.

They're only organized by system, and after that in the order in which I remembered them.  Read on to see the list.
